The app lëtzfin – Pocket money – aims to increase awareness of young people about the importance of managing their personal finance using an educational approach which requires the active involvement of parents.

The mobile app allows young people to manage their pocket money. This way, they can better monitor how their pocket money or other income is being used. The parents will act as the bank and advise their children on the management of the personal budget. To this end, the children’s and the parents’ mobile phones will be linked manually using a QR code without the parents having a detailed overview of the data registered by their children.

With this app, young people will actively learn to manage their personal budget and better understand the value of money. Knowledge of budget management is essential for the prevention of over-indebtedness. Moreover, the involvement of the parents will raise awareness about the importance for parents themselves to manage their own budget.

This app which has no commercial purpose and which is free aims to:

• Raise awareness of young people about budgeting.
• Allow young people to monitor their expenditure and income.
• Induce young people to think about their consumption habits.
• Induce young people to save money.
• Introduce young people to the concept of loans.

Lëtzfin is part of the national initiative which aims to promote general financial knowledge under the patronage of the Luxembourg financial sector supervisory commission, the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF).
